Transfer Station Operator
Townsville Hourly Rate: $36.86/hour
Hours: Up to 38 hours per week

About the Role We are seeking a dedicated
Transfer Station Operator to join our Waste Services team. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for operating and maintaining transfer station facilities to ensure safe, clean, and efficient waste management operations while providing exceptional customer service to all site users.

- Promote an outcomes-focused, value-adding culture that supports Council’s Corporate Plan and policies.
- Follow reasonable directions to maintain business continuity during unplanned disruptions or disaster events.
- Operate, maintain, and keep clean all fixed plant including conveyor/compaction systems, associated facilities, and storage locations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and accessible transfer station for all users.
- Clean, monitor, and maintain all recycling facilities (battery storage, waste oil, cardboard, commingled, e-waste, fluorescent tubes, etc.).
- Undertake other duties as reasonably directed, commensurate with the classification level.
Key Requirements- Demonstrated commitment to a positive safety culture and compliance with Health & Safety Management Systems.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Proven ability to operate, maintain, and clean transfer station facilities and equipment.
- Knowledge of waste diversion and resource recovery principles.
- Basic computer skills and ability to operate weighbridge software.
- Working knowledge of waste disposal plant/equipment operation and minor servicing.
- HR Licence (mandatory).
- Experience (Ticket) operating heavy plant such as front-end loaders (for stockpile management and compactor bin movement).
- Demonstrated experience in the waste management or disposal industry.
Classification Levels Level 3:- Demonstrated ability to operate landfill/transfer station front gate facilities and undertake listed key accountabilities.
Level 5:- All Level 3 competencies plus:
- Proven ability (Ticket) to operate heavy plant such as a front-end loader.
- Hold a valid HR Licence.
