Refinery / Production Operator Employment Type: Continuous Shift Roster
Roster: 4 days on / 4 days off (2 days, 2 nights)
Location: Townsville

About the Role We are seeking a motivated Refinery Operator. This role is suited to someone who is safety-focused, process-driven, and comfortable working rotating day and night shifts.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with routine production tasks to support safe and efficient output and meet production targets

  • Follow established procedures to maintain quality control in line with operational performance requirements

  • Assist in identifying and minimising production losses to maximise overall equipment effectiveness

  • Actively participate in incoming and outgoing shift handovers

  • At shift end, ensure the plant is clean, organised, and prepared for the next shift with adequate spares and supplies

  • Maintain effective housekeeping to ensure a safe and clean workplace

  • Complete shift logs, check sheets, PMs, and production records accurately

  • Monitor plant and equipment conditions and report irregularities

  • Notify maintenance personnel or the Team Leader of urgent equipment issues

  • Observe plant and equipment operation using a proactive approach to defect identification and avoidance

  • Participate in emergencies, shutdowns, breakdowns, and power failures as trained

  • Follow all safety requirements for process maintenance, with particular emphasis on lockout procedures

  • Support TPM and 5S activities to maintain cleanliness and order

  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Team Leader to support daily operations

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Compliance
  • Conduct work in a safe and environmentally responsible manner

  • Comply with relevant legislation, including Work Health & Safety and Environmental Protection requirements

  • Perform work in accordance with company procedures and supervisor instructions

  • Participate in continuous improvement, risk assessment, training, and awareness programs

  • Report all hazards and incidents promptly and take corrective action where appropriate

Qualifications & Tickets (as required)
  • LBG – Bridge and Gantry Crane

  • LF – Forklift Truck

  • LL – Front End Loader

  • LS – Skid Steer

  • DG – Dogging

  • WP – Boom Type Elevated Work Platform

Skills & Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of plant equipment, processes, materials, and procedures

  • Understanding of how plant equipment functions and ability to identify performance improvements

  • Ability to work with complex systems

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with varying priorities

  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team

  • Basic computing skills and use of MS Office

  • Sound written and verbal communication skills

Experience
  • Previous experience in heavy industry is desirable

  • Preventative maintenance experience is desirable

  • Demonstrated experience and competency in assigned plant operations
