Project Engineer to join the
Natural Disaster Program (NDP) and contribute to the delivery of critical disaster recovery infrastructure projects across Queensland.
Working closely with the Project Manager, you'll play a key role in coordinating and delivering transport infrastructure recovery works funded under the
Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). This position offers the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that support communities impacted by natural disasters while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with TMR requirements.
About the Role As a Project Engineer, you will provide engineering, project delivery, contract administration, and program support services throughout the lifecycle of disaster recovery projects.
You will be responsible for supporting project planning, contractor management, financial reporting, scheduling, procurement activities, and DRFA compliance to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager in delivering NDP projects from inception through to completion.
- Assist with project planning, risk management, and mitigation of delivery issues.
- Conduct site inspections and liaise with contractors, consultants, and stakeholders.
- Attend project and contractor meetings, providing technical engineering advice.
- Prepare and manage DRFA submissions and recovery funding documentation.
- Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts, and expenditure using SAP and TMR systems.
- Review contractor claims, progress reports, and financial performance.
- Maintain and update project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Review construction programs for compliance with contractual requirements.
- Support procurement activities in accordance with TMR policies and procedures.
- Assist with contract administration, including variations, extensions of time, and claims management.
- Maintain accurate project records, documentation, and filing systems.
- Manage drawing registers, as-constructed documentation, and project close-out activities.
- Support stakeholder engagement and maintain effective communication across project teams.
- Assist with completion reporting and submission of DRFA acquittal documentation.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have strong experience in transport infrastructure delivery and a sound understanding of disaster recovery programs and contract administration.
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering accredited under the Washington Accord or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia.
- Minimum 6 years' experience delivering transport infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 3 years' experience working on projects funded under Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
- Current Class C Driver's Licence.
Highly Regarded
- Experience working with Transport and Main Roads (TMR) projects.
- Strong contract administration and contractor management experience.
- Knowledge of SAP, Primavera P6, 3PCM and project management systems.
- Strong financial management, forecasting and reporting skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced project environment.
