Health and Safety Officer - Cairns Achieve Group is currently seeking an experienced
Health & Safety Officer to join our client based in Cairns. This is a full-time contract role for an initial period of three months, with the possibility of extension.
Role description
Accountabilities include- Work collaboratively with peer roles and with the functional lead for operational safety in a matrix-style arrangement as part of the IMD WHS delivery model.
- Build and maintain relationships with safety practitioners, operational staff, and managers across IMD and TMR to achieve positive outcomes for the division and for TMR.
- Provide a high standard of professional advice and support to frontline operational staff, managers, and WHS committees on
- the interpretation, understanding and application of WHS legislation, Australian and international standards, certification and accreditation criteria.
- the implementation of WHS policies, procedures, standards, guidance and tools.
- the identification of hazards and risks relevant to IMD work and workplaces, and
- the implementation of established contemporary good practice for eliminating and minimising risks relevant to IMD work and workplaces.
- Actively contribute to the development and review of operational safety content (e.g. standards, procedures, guidance, tools, reports) for IMD, in support of the functional lead for operational safety.
- Support the implementation of operational safety content, including through the delivery of training, coordination of trials, consultation with workers and their elected health and safety representatives, and ongoing monitoring for effectiveness.
- Support the identification, planning and delivery of operational initiatives targeting improvements in organisational capability in incident and injury prevention, incident investigations, front-line safety leadership, and effective management of high-risk activities.
- Lead and support effective incident reporting and investigation in accordance with established TMR and IMD procedures and methodologies.
- Lead and support workplace inspections and audits to ensure the identification of hazards and to validate the effectiveness of risk controls.
- Support local health and safety representatives through the provision of training, role coaching, and the facilitation of local health and safety representative networks.
- Participate in operational safety professional development activities to maintain an awareness of and competency in established good practice and contemporary, emerging practices.
Desirable requirements
- University degree or other tertiary qualification/equivalent qualification (e.g., Diploma) in work health and safety.
- Proven experience in operational health and safety practices in industry, including frontline engagement and surveillance, monitoring of compliance and performance, and the development of frontline organisational capability.
- Proven experience in leading and identifying risk controls in Laboratory environments would be desirable but not essential.
- Demonstrate knowledge of civil construction risks.
- Proven experience delivering training and coaching services in the field of health and safety.
- Proven experience in incident investigation.
- Exposure in identifying and controlling psychosocial risk and coaching to improve hazard awareness in the workplace desirable but not essential.
