Start: As soon as possible
Reporting to: Branch Manager

We are seeking a reliable, mechanically minded Counter Hand to join their small, tight-knit branch team. This is a customer-facing role supporting walk-in customers and phone enquiries, making hoses, transferring stock, and providing product guidance.

The right person will have practical aptitude and confidence working with mechanical components, even if they are not trade-qualified. The client can train the specifics, but they need someone who understands how things work, can learn quickly, and thrives in a busy, hands-on environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve customers at the counter and over the phone
  • Interpret customer needs and help identify the correct parts or solutions
  • Make hoses (full training and certification provided)
  • Transfer, organise, and manage stock
  • Balance walk-in customers with incoming phone enquiries
  • General workshop and counter support
Essential Requirements
  • Good mechanical aptitude – ideally someone who has tinkered, fixed things, or enjoys hands-on work
  • Ability to think, problem-solve, and learn practical tasks quickly
  • Reliable, steady, and comfortable working in a team of all-male staff and serving predominantly male customers
  • Customer service confidence (phone and face-to-face)
  • Ability to juggle enquiries, walk-ins, and practical tasks
Desirable (Not Essential)
  • Forklift licence (training can be arranged)
  • Previous experience in a mechanical, trade, parts, or workshop environment
  • Retail or counter sales experience
Work Environment & Culture
  • Busy shop with varied activity: quiet periods followed by high walk-in traffic
  • Fast-paced phone enquiries requiring catalogue searches and problem-solving
  • Supportive team culture with strong training capability
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • A practical worker with hands-on experience
  • Or a mechanically minded school leaver who enjoys tinkering, fixing, or building things and wants a structured role
  • Reliable, steady and team focused
  • Someone who enjoys practical tasks and customer interaction
  • Interested in stable, long-term employment and can commit to a Monday to Friday routine
