AO6 Senior Communications Advisor

Description:
Are you ready to fast-track your career and make waves on Queensland’s stunning Sunshine Coast? With a booming program of works across the North Coast Region, including transformative transport infrastructure projects, this is your chance to put your communication skills into top gear and be part of something big.

We're crossing new bridges—both literally and figuratively—as we deliver innovative infrastructure to support one of Australia’s most dynamic growing regions. And we need a communications expert to make sure our stories are heard loud and clear.
As the Senior Communications Advisor, you’ll lead compelling communications and stakeholder initiatives that drive understanding, inspire community confidence, and connect people to the exciting progress happening around them. Whether it’s telling stories about local community benefits or planning engagement strategies that ensure smooth journeys ahead, you’ll thrive in this unique role centered around growth and transformation.
If you're someone who loves the idea of working at the crossroads of creativity and strategy, this is your on-ramp to something extraordinary.

Key Responsibilities:
As our Senior Communications Advisor, you’ll:
• Drive the development, implementation, and management of strategic communication plans and campaigns for projects across the Sunshine Coast Region.
• Work alongside project delivery teams to craft messaging that connects community members with the social and economic benefits of transport infrastructure.
• Build strong and enduring stakeholder relationships—whether discussing timelines with contractors or engaging community groups interested in the projects.
• Create innovative materials (media releases, newsletters, social media content) that keep commuters and residents updated on project progress—no jargon, just clear, relatable information.
• Act as a trusted advisor, providing senior leaders and project teams with timely and expert advice on communication best practices and engagement strategies.
• Identify potential challenges before they arise and develop strategies to keep communication flowing smoothly (just like the highways!).

About You:
You're someone who can turn complexity into clarity and bring energy into every project you touch. You might call yourself a storyteller, a strategic thinker, or even a “communications traffic controller” who ensures that everything stays on track.
To stand out, you’ll need:
• Previous experience in communications, stakeholder and community engagement, or public relations, (preferably in government or infrastructure).
• An understanding of infrastructure, transport is a bonus—and if you’ve told the success stories of big builds before, we want to hear from you!
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (yes, you know the difference between “stationary” and “stationery”).
• A proven ability to engage communities, build relationships with diverse stakeholders, and manage messaging with sensitivity—especially in high-profile or fast-paced environments.
• Experience working within or with government departments, balancing community value with organisational priorities.
• A proactive, solutions-focussed mindset. If there’s a roadblock, you know how to detour around it.

Qualification:
A tertiary qualification in Communications or Public Relations or a related field is highly desirable, along with IAP2 Certification.

Working Hours:
Maximum of 38 hours per week between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.
