About the Program In support of the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP), the Fire Ant Suppression Taskforce (FAST) is expanding operations to strengthen its capacity to manage and reduce fire ant infestations across the suppression area.

FAST will be undertaking two aerial treatments across approximately 106,000 hectares of known high-infestation zones before June 2026. To deliver this large-scale initiative safely and effectively, we are seeking a motivated and capable Aerial Support Officer to join our operations team.

About the Role The Aerial Support Officer will provide vital operational and on-ground support during aerial treatment activities and assist with logistical, administrative, and stakeholder engagement functions to ensure the success and safety of aerial operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide on-ground support during aerial operations, including using maps and site-specific data to manage risks associated with crops, livestock, infrastructure, and the public.

  • Navigate to strategic locations to monitor helicopter activity and manage associated risks, while maintaining communication with stakeholders.

  • Conduct office-based administrative duties such as data entry, map preparation, and vehicle upkeep when not in the field.

  • Lead daily pre-start briefings with team members and subcontractors to ensure operational clarity and safety.

  • Communicate effectively with pilots and the operations team to identify and manage any emerging risks.

  • Monitor helicopter positions and respond promptly in the event of an emergency.

  • Assist with developing and improving aerial operations procedures in line with program standards and safety protocols.

  • Maintain a positive public image for the program through professional communication and accurate information sharing.

  • Provide accurate responses to general public enquiries, promoting awareness of the program and the importance of biosecurity.

  • Assist in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating aerial operations to achieve operational and scientific outcomes.

  • Manage stakeholder and public requests in line with established processes to ensure efficient operations.

  • Deliver high-quality customer service when liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Identify and resolve operational issues using sound judgement and problem-solving skills.

  • Maintain accurate and high-quality data records, reporting discrepancies when identified.

  • Support all aspects of aerial servicing, including refuelling, safety procedures, equipment maintenance, and pilot assistance.

  • Maintain registers and documentation to a high standard, ensuring compliance with program requirements.

Highly Desirable Attributes
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and communication, particularly with primary producers or rural communities, will be highly regarded.

  • Manual driver’s licence (required).
