Engineering His Way to a Better Future // Meet Civil Engineer Brad Thus, who is Achieve Group’s Client of the Month!
For many of us, it can take a period of experimenting, changing, and adapting before finding the right career path. However, this was quite the opposite experience for Brad Thus who found his calling as a Civil Engineer during his time in school and discovered the job description ticked all his boxes.
“I enjoyed maths, science and sports at school. Civil Construction gives me the opportunity to use my brain and get outdoors” explains the CES civil engineer who has nearly 20 years’ experience in the civil construction industry.
After completing his civil engineering degree at JCU: James Cook University, Australia in 1999, Mr Thus went on to work for various civil construction businesses in Townsville before he was offered his current position as the construction manager at the locally owned and operated company, CES Civil in 2019.
“Generally, my role is to oversee the project management and supervision of staff, assist with delivery of projects, prepare tender submissions and manage and facilitate general business operations” he explains of his role.
“My favourite part of the job is the challenge of constructing the project within the cost budget using innovation and project management. Seeing the before and after product is also rewarding”.
His near 20 years’ experience in the civil construction sector has meant he has learnt many lessons which continue to help him develop his expertise and evolve as a civil engineer. His main lesson though?
“There is always more than one way to get the job done!” he says. “The secret is finding the way that meets your project constraints and objectives best”.
When he is not leading a team, or brainstorming strategic visions for his projects, Mr Thus enjoys keeping active in the outdoors, a passion he has maintained since his time at school. “I enjoy staying fit and playing sport. You’re never too old to stay in shape!” he exclaims.
Although Mr Thus is unsure of the exact year CES has been using Achieve Group’s services, he notes how the company has utilised Achieve to source quality employees that complement their team.
“Achieve staff have always been helpful and delivered the required worker for our needs, making the recruitment process easier by being a timely service meeting the desired outcomes” he notes.
“Their development of working relationships between staff results in an improved service and an understanding of client’s needs”.
Who could complain about that?
