Our client is looking to secure an Ecologist to join their growing Team in Rockhampton.

Our client is one of Australia's largest fully certified environmental consultancies, helping government and the private sector achieve desired outcomes while maintaining compliance and minimising natural disruption.


Your new role
A great opportunity has arisen for an Ecologist to join our clients Rockhampton office and lead their Environmental Services team. The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in ecology, project management, proposal and report writing and have grounded business development skills. You will report to the Regional Manager and will support them through project management of multiple and multi-faceted projects from inception to completion.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualifications in ecology or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in a consulting and/or regulatory role in either private enterprise or a government agency.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing teams; managing work allocation, training, problem resolution, performance, evaluation and the building of effective team dynamics.
  • Excellent fauna and flora identification skills, and survey methodologies.
  • Experience and understanding wildlife behaviour and threatened species management.
  • Demonstrated business development and client liaison skills.
  • Experience in multiple industries including: Construction, State & Local Government, Renewable energy.
  • Knowledge of Commonwealth, Queensland and interstate environmental legislation, including regional ecosystem framework.
  • Proven data analysis, technical report and proposal writing skills.
  • Must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or have a valid permit to work in Australia.
  • Current manual drivers' licence; with clean police and driving records.

  • Chainsaw
  • Working at heights
  • Venomous snake handling
  • Fauna handling
  • 4WD


Skills and experience that would be beneficial:

  • Post graduate qualifications
  • Strength in Fauna ecology
  • Fauna handling experience
  • Exposure to NetSuite or other ERP platforms

  • Must be passionate about the environment and ethical practices;
  • Must be highly adaptable with great time management skills;
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering practical solutions;
  • You must be able to commit to flexible working hours and be comfortable with remote fieldwork;
  • Ability to establish strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Strong team player
